The Hurrian language is classified as a language isolate, which means it has no known relatives in the world’s languages. It was primarily spoken in regions that now comprise modern-day Turkey and northern Syria. Evidence points to the language being used as early as the late 3rd millennium BCE. It flourished particularly during the 2nd millennium BCE, in the Hurrian city-states of Mitanni.
