The History and Origin of the Thai Language

The Thai language is believed to have originated in China, and is thought to have been brought to Thailand by Chinese traders. It became the official language of the country during the Sukhothai period of the 13th to 15th centuries. Since then, the language has evolved and changed as the Thai culture has changed. Thai has been influenced by many other languages including Sanskrit, Pali, and Mon-Khmer.
