Introduction to the Thai language

Thai is the official language of Thailand. It is a member of the Tai-Kadai language family and is closely related to Lao and Shan. Thai is a tonal language, which means that the meaning of a word can change depending on how it is pronounced. This means that the same word can have different meanings depending on the tone it is spoken in. There are five tones in Thai: high, middle, low, falling, and rising.
