3. Extinct Language Status

Today, Phrygian is classified as an extinct language. The last known speakers of Phrygian likely perished or assimilated into surrounding cultures around the 3rd century CE. With the rise of the Byzantine Empire and the spread of Latin and later languages, Phrygian faded into obscurity. The remnants of the language exist primarily in inscriptions and pottery fragments.
