Teacher Charged After Incident with Sixth Grader

Mar 27 2025

A teacher from Underwood, Minnesota, is facing legal charges following an incident in which he allegedly stepped on a sixth-grade student during a lockdown drill. The student's mother reported that her son was left in significant discomfort.

Details of the Incident

Jason L. Rogers, 47, has been charged with a gross misdemeanor count of malicious punishment of a child. The incident reportedly took place on February 10 while the students were participating in a lockdown drill at Underwood School District.

  • The student was lying on his stomach when Rogers stepped on his back for about ten seconds, causing him pain and distress.
  • The boy described experiencing severe pain, stating he felt as though he was "walking around like an 80-year-old."
  • Rogers later admitted to stepping on the student but justified his actions by saying he wanted the class to take the drill more seriously.

Reactions and Consequences

Superintendent Jeff Wilson confirmed that Rogers is on paid administrative leave while the situation is addressed. His first court appearance is scheduled for April 8, and his attorney has declined to comment on the case.
