Remembering Michelle Tranchita: A Teacher's Lasting Legacy

Mar 27 2025

The Waukesha School District is mourning the loss of Michelle Tranchita, a dedicated math coach at Hadfield Elementary School. With nearly 25 years of service, she was known for her commitment to helping students grow both academically and personally.

A Life Devoted to Students

Tranchita's sister, Melanie Dold, remembers her as a deeply caring individual who prioritized her students, children, family, and colleagues. "She cared so immensely about her students," Dold reflected.

The principal of Hadfield Elementary, Mike Elliott, praised Tranchita's dedication, noting, "She would support and love you — and also make sure you’re learning." Under her guidance, students excelled in their studies, with many mastering complex subjects by the end of the school year.

A Final Wish

After being diagnosed with cancer in 2022, Tranchita's health deteriorated, and she passed away on March 8, 2025. In her obituary, she expressed a wish for donations to be made to a snack fund for Hadfield Elementary students instead of receiving flowers. This fund aims to support students in need, as 80% of the school's students live below the poverty line.

Principal Elliott emphasized the significance of providing basic snacks, stating, "Something we think is simple — to them, it’s the world. It’s going to make a world of difference."

Remembering a Multitalented Educator

Beyond her teaching, Tranchita was talented in various activities, including gymnastics, softball, and kickboxing. Her passion for gardening brought her joy, and her legacy will continue through the support she wished for her students.

Dold expressed that Tranchita always wanted to help others. "Michelle wanted to make sure she could help even while she was gone," she said tearfully.

For those looking to honor Michelle Tranchita's memory, donations to the Hadfield Elementary Snack Fund can be made through a GoFundMe page. Her friends and colleagues will ensure that the funds are used to purchase snacks for their students.
