A Brief History of Manx

The Manx language belongs to the Gaelic branch of the Celtic languages, alongside Irish and Scottish Gaelic. It has a history that dates back to the arrival of Celtic settlers on the Isle of Man over a thousand years ago. As a result, it shares numerous linguistic features with its Gaelic cousins. However, despite its deep roots, the language faced significant decline during the 19th and 20th centuries due to British colonization and the dominance of English.
