The Manx language belongs to the Gaelic branch of the Celtic languages, alongside Irish and Scottish Gaelic. It has a history that dates back to the arrival of Celtic settlers on the Isle of Man over a thousand years ago. As a result, it shares numerous linguistic features with its Gaelic cousins.
